Program Description

The guided walking tour starts from Piazza Indipendenza, we will proceed to Porta Nuova, to get to the Cathedral. Brief visit of this imposing building which represents the synthesis of the history of sacred architecture in Palermo, for later we will continue to Piazza Villena, also known as “Quattro Canti” or “Teatro del sole”. This is the meeting place of the two main arteries of the historic center of Palermo and the Baroque heart of the city. After the explanation of the symbolic meaning of the square and the splendid twelve statues that it decorate, we will continue to Piazza Pretoria to admire the magnificent fountain in Tuscan white marble decorated with more than forty statues, and, moreover, the facade of the Palazzo delle Aquile, the town hall. Through the narrow streets behind the cathedral you'll reach the Capo market, an ancient food market characterized by a unique atmosphere. You will be struck by the voices of the sellers, the variety of products on display, the flavors and smells. During this walk you will be transported inside the true flavors of Sicilian street food, you can taste the arancine, the panelle, the real Sicilian sfincione and last but not least the sandwich "ca Meusa". After enjoying the "Street Food" departure for Monreale and meeting with the local guide. Visit of the superb Cathedral of Monreale, a masterpiece architecture of the Norman age, in which expressions of Islamic, Byzantine and Romanesque culture combine to create one of the highest creations of the Italian Middle Ages. The interior is of great splendor and majesty. The walls of the naves, of the sanctuary, of the apses are all covered with mosaics in depth gold like the colossal half-length figure of Christ Pantocrator. Optional visit of the Cloister and return to the hotel in the afternoon.
