Program Description

Half-day excursion to the gateway of the Arab Maghreb. Pick-up from the hotel and drive to Oujda, a city that was founded in 994 by Ziri ibn Atiyya, a Berber chieftain of the Zenat Maghraw tribe. It has been the subject of many territorial disputes over the centuries and has passed under the rule of many powers and dynasties. Oujda has been destroyed and rebuilt more than once, which is why it has been called Medinat Al - Hairah, ‘the city of fear’. Your walk through the city will begin by passing through the Bab Al Gharbi gate, from which the road leads directly to the Al Kabir mosque with its ‘three fountains’. The colourful and winding streets of the local bazaar - a place where you will be able to observe the daily life of the local community. In the medina, history blends seamlessly with modern culture. The next gate, Bab Sidi Abd el Wahab, known as the ‘gate of heads’, is the exit directly to the main square of the old part of the city, where countless stalls selling local food and delicacies tempt even the most aloof tourist with their oriental flavour. Free time for individual exploration of this ‘outdoor museum’. Return to hotels.
